Day 2: Sunday 6th June 2010

Woke to a grey and foggy day. Bowl of cereal and then headed out to get the paper. Small towns means usual paper shop not open on Sundays so had to find a petrol station. Got back and then we headed out for a walk.

First we walked a couple of miles down to Rye Harbour, stopping off in the cafe by the lifeboat station for a bacon butty and cup of tea to warm up. We followed the footpath along the back of the beach, stopping off in a hide to look for some birds. As we walked the couple of miles along the shore, the sun came out and the day warmed up.

Eventually we turned right and headed inland towards Winchelsea. Didn't make it into the town itself, stopping just outside the village at the Bridge inn for lunch. Walked back towards Rye via the castle and the military canal. Stopped off at the station to find out details of trains to Canterbury and Bexhill for further days out this week. The heat had built up and we stopped off in a cafe for a coke float on the way back to the flat for a rest.

Didn't make it out in the evening after collapsing in the armchair to download the photos and type up these notes, and to let my sunburnt legs cool down. Wearing shorts had meant cold knees in the morning when we set out, but we had somehow managed to keep the sun behind us as we walked so only my calfs were burnt.
